People and their relatives told us they were happy with the staff who visited them. People spoke of staff with affection and told us they were kind and would do anything for them. Staff training was ongoing, from initial induction and regular updates, staff were supported and encouraged to continually learn. A member of staff told us, “I did a detailed induction which was very clear. I felt supported when I started and completed shadow shifts with 3 clients first. The training has been excellent the staff are also very good and knowledgeable.”
Recruitment processes were in place; staff were recruited safely. Procedures were in place to ensure the required checks were carried out on staff before they commenced their employment. This included enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks for adults. DBS checks provide information including details about convictions and cautions held on the police national computer. The information helps employers make safer recruitment decisions. A programme of intensive training and support was in place to ensure staff not only learned how to carry out the role but understood the requirements of the service and the standards expected. Support was ongoing and there was a schedule of supervisions, spot checks and appraisals, records showed the conversations were two-way and detailed.
