People's experience of this service

People told us they felt safe, staff knew them well and knew how to support them. People’s individual risks had been identified, and the necessary risk assessment reviews were carried out to keep people safe. Care plans described the care people required and we observed staff were attentive to people’s needs and supported people safely. The atmosphere in the service was calm and friendly. People and their relatives told us staff treated them with kindness, compassion and respect. One person said, “The carers can’t do enough. Whatever I ask for, they do. It’s the way that it’s done, so you don’t feel a nuisance.” A relative told us, “We are cared for very well, it’s a very caring community. The staff are very supportive and caring. I’m grateful for the support and care that they give to my husband whilst supporting my needs too.” Whilst we received mixed feedback from people and their relatives about staffing levels at the service, we observed there were enough staff at the time of the visit to meet people’s needs. However, comments from people included, “I don’t think that having two staff upstairs and two staff downstairs in the evenings is enough. Some nights there are only three staff. Daytimes it’s ok”, “Sometimes they can take a while to come” and “On the whole yes, they are times when they could do with more.” There were safe and effective recruitment processes in place. Staff were well trained and competent in their roles. There were systems and processes in place to protect people from the risk of infection. People told us the service was always clean and staff kept their rooms clean and tidy. People were supported by staff to access healthcare and support when needed. One person said, “If I needed a doctor, they would definitely get one for me. I would tell them if I was feeling unwell.”
