Caring
People were treated kindly and respectfully. People and relatives told us the staff were respectful of their dignity and independence and we saw examples of this during our visit. People gave us examples of how staff were supporting them to become more independent each day. Care plans recorded people's skills and the things they could do for themselves.

Independence, choice and control
People told us they were supported to become independence; one person told us they were now responsible for managing a key aspect of their daily life and they were enjoying this experience.
Staff spoke about the importance of supporting people to maintain their independence and provided examples of how people were becoming more independent each day. The registered manager told us, “I want to come and make a difference, I can hear staff asking {person) what they would like to wear. We support based on needs, it is an involved house, and we ensure people are actively participating and enjoying their best life." Staff were able to provide detailed examples about the positive impacts on people’s lives because of the care and support they have received. One staff member said, “We support people on a daily basis, and we can see small steps which lead to bigger steps.”
Staff supported people and encouraged them where they were able to be as independent as possible. During our visit we observed people were given choice and control in activities they wished to do, some people were going for a walk whilst others were supported to participate in a game.
Individual person-centred care plans had been developed in partnership with people and their relatives, enabling staff to support people in a personalised way that was specific to their needs and preferences. These included people’s choices around what activities they would like to do and how they would like to be supported whilst living at the home.
