This was the first assessment of this registered service under a new provider and therefore we assessed all 6 quality statements from this key question. Based on the findings of this assessment, our rating for this key question is good. This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care. People were supported to have choice and control and made decisions about how their support was provided. They were encouraged and supported by staff to do as much as they could for themselves to maintain their independence. People were supported to understand their rights and how the service would make sure these were respected.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

Score: 3

People spoke in positive terms about the staff and the kindness and compassion they demonstrated. Comments included, “They care personally”, “I feel comfortable” and “Friendly, caring and cheerful manner.”

Staff demonstrated empathy when speaking about people which they did so in a respectful and positive way. They told us, “We respect our clients, we respect their opinions.” Training records showed staff received training in principles of care.

We did not receive any feedback from external health and social care professionals, however records seen indicated there were no concerns in this area.

Treating people as individuals

Score: 3

People told us staff treated them in line with their individual needs and were flexible when supporting them. Comments included, “They adjust the service to my [family member’s] needs” and “Their visits are tailored to each client's needs and personalities and are enjoyable experiences.”

Staff understood the importance of treating people as individuals with their own preferences. For example, they were familiar with people’s dietary and cultural needs. They were also knowledgeable about how they liked their personal care to be delivered.

People’s care plans were up to date, personalised and contained information about their individual needs and preferences.

Independence, choice and control

People told us staff supported them to lead independent lives and the support provided helped them to stay at home for longer. Comments included, “I am mobile, my mobility is limited but am independent.” Another person said, “They help her with her independence. They will make her lunch, we buy it, and they prepare it.”

Care workers understood the importance of supporting people to maintain their independence and to live at home for as long as possible. Care workers spoke about how they supported people to make informed choices about how they lived their lives and decide what care would be provide for them.

Care and support records contained information about people’s support needs and their level of independence. They also included a social inclusion assessment.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

People told us staff helped them to access external health care services and support when they needed it including any immediate needs. One person said, “Hospital were going to discharge me on a Sunday and Noblesse were the only one who could offer help immediately.”

Staff demonstrated a good awareness of people’s health and medical needs and how they would respond to these if people were to become unwell. Staff had received training in first aid.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

Score: 3

Staff told us the managers fostered a positive work environment and looked out for their wellbeing. Comments included, “[The registered manager] is helpful and approachable, she is always around to help.”

Team and individual meetings were used to discuss how staff were feeling at work and if they needed any additional help or support.
