Independence, choice and control
People felt their independence was promoted and they had choice and control over their care and support. People told us how they kept in touch with people who were important to them and how they accessed the local community. Several people told us there were not as many activities in the communal area as there used to be. The registered manager told us there were some activities but they were looking at recruiting volunteers so they could do more. One person told us they were looking forward to a disco which was being run by 2 people who lived at the service.
Staff promoted people’s independence. One staff member told us, “We try and support people, but encourage them to do what they can for themselves and ensure they have choice.” Staff told us people and their relatives, where appropriate, were involved in care planning. One staff member described how they were involved in the reviewing and writing of care plans. They said, “we follow a person-centred way of doing things.” The registered manager told us there were good links and relationships with the local community. For example, children from the local school visited and the florist brought flowers to them after weddings.
People’s care plans reflected what people could do independently and their choices
