Our view of the service
Date of Assessment: 2 December to 18 December 2024. This service is a residential care home providing personal and nursing care to people under the age of 65. It specialises in supporting people who have complex neurological needs including Huntington's Disease, acquired brain injury (for example, due to a head injury or stroke) or people with mental health needs who also have physical disabilities. At the time of our assessment there were 20 people using the service. This assessment was prompted in part due to information we held about the service. We visited the service on the 2 December 2024. At this assessment, we looked at 13 quality statements in the key questions of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. There was enough staff to meet people’s needs. There was time for social interaction and there were designated activities coordinators to assist people to follow an activity timetable. The provider had processes in place to protect people from avoidable harm and abuse. Staff had received training in safeguarding and knew how to report any concerns. People’s care plans were personalised and reflected their needs and preferences. Risks to people were identified and recorded so safety was maintained. People were supported to have choice and control and were involved in planning their care. People were referred to other health agencies to promote their wellbeing. People were provided with information they could understand. People knew how to give feedback. Managers were visible and supportive. Staff understood their roles and responsibilities. Systems were in place to monitor the quality of the service and care provided. Actions were taken to continuously improve the service.
People's experience of this service
We spoke with 6 people who lived at the home about their experience of the care provided. We spent time seeing how people were cared for. We used the Short Observational Framework for Inspection (SOFI). SOFI is a way of observing care to help us understand the experience of people who could not talk with us. We spoke with 2 relatives about their experience of the care provided. People told us they felt safe and liked living at Stanley House. People spoke positively about staff and the management team. People were involved in assessments and reviews of their care needs and staff reviewed them regularly. People were supported to be as independent as possible, and staff supported people to make choices and decisions.
