Independence, choice and control
The service promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. People’s care plans highlighted what people could do for themselves and where support was required. For example, one person’s care record clearly stated how protective they were about their independence especially as they were recognising their symptoms are declining. A person told us, “They (staff) always knock when entering rooms, they don’t try to force anything and always help me keep my independence.” Referrals had been made for assessments for 2 people for environmental assistive technology devices. These products enable people to independently control electronic devices in their immediate surroundings. For example, turn their TV on.
